It’s “Ladies Week” on the Country Songwriter Chart.
Why? Because five females have risen into the Top 16—Hillary Lindsey (No. 5), Lori McKenna (No. 11), Liz Rose (No. 12), Jennifer Wayne (No. 14) and Audra Mae (No. 16). Also noticeable, one song—“Girl Crush”—penned by Lindsey, McKenna and Rose appears twice on our chart. No, it’s not a mistake. Two versions of the song, by Little Big Town and the Voice’s Meaghan Linsey both generated enough points from airplay, downloads and streaming to boost its writer’s chart positions.
And while the quality of both versions of the song speak for themselves, I feel compelled to especially rave about LBT’s Karen Fairchild who delivered an amazing ACM performance of this ballad last week. Fairchild’s vocals have always impressed, but over time her tone has matured into a smoky burgundy that connects with listener’s ears like wine on tastebuds. Stated simply, her dynamic range and emotional delivery is intoxicating.
As for writers McKenna and Rose they get to share Biggest Gainer status moving from No. 46=>11 and No. 47=> 12 respectively.
Meanwhile at the Top of the chart we find Shane McAnally and Ashley Gorley jockeying for position each holding a full house of charted song titles. Who made it to the top? Well don’t take my word for it, click HERE to see the full Country Songwriter Chart!
