The forthcoming book, written by NEKST publisher David M. Ross, contains a detailed roadmap to place the entertainment industry on solid, long term footing so that as the digital future continues to unfold, the creative community and all stakeholders will be fairly compensated.
“The plan applies specifically to streaming music royalties,” says Ross. “The current system is so complex that even professionals can hardly keep up. For example, a webcaster like Pandora is granted a statutory license, but on-demand streamers like Spotify must negotiate directly with individual rights holders. And when it comes to streaming, can anyone really discern between a performance and/or a mechanical right?”
“The streaming royalty ecosystem needs more than a band aid,” Ross continues. “It requires a fresh business model that embraces the porous nature of Internet distribution and acknowledges that music is an essential part of our society’s cultural and spiritual growth.”
NEKST, will begin releasing the 12-chapter book starting July 24.
“I’m hoping The Digital Solution might reposition how our industry defines its current challenges,” says Ross. “The goal is to move the discussion forward…”
